2014 Resolutions Link-up

2013 has definitely been a big struggle for me personally and professionally.  I'm hoping 2013 will see out what has been an awful year for so many reasons.  I'm sure if I really thought about it, I could tell you lots of wonderful things that have happened........but I'm ready to look forward and leap into 2014 with a more positive attitude!   Here's to 2014 and a new outlook, with better things to come!  Cheers! This pack would be suitable for Pre-K, K and possibly struggling first graders.

This is for students to familiarize themselves with the focus words in a fun setting.

3. Letters of the alphabet – easy cutting option (6 pages)

Print multiple couples for groups of students.

4. Spelling Word Mats to accompany #3 version. (4 pages) 

There are 5 pictures on each word mat. Students lay the correct letters/sounds, in the right position, on the mat.

Once students have practiced with the 20 focus words, they should be encouraged to investigate real and nonsense words with all the letters of the alphabet.

#5 and #6 are the same as #3 and #4. (10 pages)

Here I have used jigsaw pieces as these are visually more appealing and help students understand that letters and sounds must be blended to create a word. This version creates a lot more cutting, this is why I have included the alternate version above.

NB: Detailed 'Teacher Notes' are included. I have also included an editable probe grid for teachers to add their own content.

These probe grids are intended to be used as intervention for students who are making very little progress with basic skills in literacy.

The grids are highly structured, to be used little and often, with the aim of boosting fluency, accuracy and confidence.

Use them as part of a 5/10 minute daily program for basic skills learning. (They should be used on a one-to-one basis with a suitable adult). The daily activity aims to help the student develop fluency by over-learning.

The grids are intended to challenge the student to read as many items as possible in 1 minute – a sand timer or stopwatch can be used.
